Fort Sill Golf Courses
You can enjoy two different 18 hole golf courses,
driving ranges, practice putting and pitching greens, Pro Shop, carts, rental clubs, snack
bar and banquet facilities. Fort Sill golf courses offer Junior Golf clinics, unit A&R
rates, lessons, and evening scrambles. |
History
The Fort Sill Golf Course wasn't always the size or the location it is today. The original Officers' Club Golf Course was nine holes and featured the first grass greens on post. The present day
FSGC, designed in 1946, was heavily wooded and used by the Artillery Hunt Club.
The two-story frame building that became the club house was moved from
its original location on Fort Sill Blvd. by two 40-foot flatbed trailers to
its present day location. The club house opened March 31, 1950 and was then
open to all ranks, with current hole numbers and the name Fort Sill Golf
Course. The Fort Sill Golf Course is a parkland wooded course, rare to
southwest Oklahoma and measures over sixty-five hundred yards from the back
tees. Medicine Creek flows throughout the beautiful back nine of the Fort Sill Golf
Course. Burr Oaks and numerous types of nut trees line the fairways.
Historical sites lie in and around the golf course boundaries. Flipper's
ditch, which crosses the 15th and 16th fairways, and General Custer's
Bivouac, which was located on the 14th fairway, are testimony to the
history of the area.
